Virgil van Dijk has stated that he is 'very happy' at Liverpool and intends to be a part of the club's big transition when Jurgen Klopp departs as manager at the end of the season.

While there has been no solid confirmation to date, it has been widely reported that the Reds have already reached an agreement with Feyenoord manager Arne Slot to replace Klopp at the end of the current campaign.

In addition Michael Edwards is expected to return as chief executive of football and Richard Hughes has been named sporting director.

Van Dijk took on the role of captaincy following Jordan Henderson's departure to the Saudi Pro League last summer. The Dutchman is now approaching the end of his sixth full season with the Reds.

Van Dijk ready for fresh challenge

The 32-year-old has one year remaining on his current contract with the Reds, which has led to speculation over his future at Anfield.

However, it appears that the Netherlands international is ready for the fresh challenge at Liverpool under new leadership.

Speaking to the media, Van Dijk affirmed, "There is nothing for me to discuss because there is no news. 'I think the club is very much busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus.

"I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well. It's a big part of my life already. The focus is now on the last two games and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that."

Despite a recent downturn in form that dashed hopes of a title challenge, Liverpool have secured a return to the Champions League and are guaranteed to finish no lower than third in the Premier League with two matches remaining.

For Van Dijk, the club's current position, coupled with an EFL Cup triumph, signifies a positive response to what was a forgettable campaign last season.

"Listen, if you said at the start of the season that this is how it would have gone then I think we would have taken that.

"We are winners and we were close and that is how it is, we weren't good enough in the decisive moments but that is life. We have to stick together and we will," he added.

Following their 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Liverpool will visit Aston Villa next week before Klopp's tenure will come to an end with a home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on May 19.

Under Klopp's guidance, the Reds have earned six major trophies. Conversely, his potential successor, Slot, who has never managed a side outside of the Netherlands, has previously won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup with Feyenoord.
