Liverpool have monitored numerous forwards and are likely to move for alternative targets to Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Reds transfer expert David Lynch has claimed.

The Merseysiders are set to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash at Anfield following their 1-0 victory against the French champions last Wednesday.

Darwin Nunez came on as a late substitute against PSG in the first leg and registered an assist, but the Uruguayan has routinely been linked with a move away from Anfield and his expected departure has led to speculation that the Reds will reinforce their attack in the summer.

However, Lynch claimed that Liverpool are likely to avoid signing Isak due to his price and injury history, but he did say that the club may be interested in someone like Hugo Ekitike, telling Sports Mole: "I'm pretty certain a forward will be on the shopping list this summer because [Liverpool] are going to get forced into that position by Darwin Nunez leaving - there's no doubt about that.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo amid concerns over Romeo Lavia's fitness.

Mainoo's Man United future is currently shrouded in uncertainty despite having a contract at Old Trafford until the summer of 2027, with an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Talks have taken place over a new deal on improved terms, but there is a belief that Mainoo could turn down a fresh contract in favour of pursuing a move abroad.

Mainoo, who currently earns around £20,000, is said to be asking for around £180,000 a week in contract negotiations, which is a figure they are reluctant to meet due to their concerns over meeting the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules.

Man City's "big problem" highlights "definite need" to sign De Bruyne replacement

SM-EK KDB composite

Manchester City expert Steven McInerney from Esteemed Kompany believes that there is a "definite need" for the Citizens to sign a new creative midfielder to address the "big problem" that was evident in their 1-0 Premier League defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Callum Hudson-Odoi's 83rd-minute goal condemned the reigning champions to their ninth league loss of the campaign and leaves their Champions League hopes in jeopardy.

Despite boasting 70% possession at the City Ground, Pep Guardiola's side struggled to create many high-quality openings and registered just three of their 14 attempts on target throughout the contest.

The two Midlands outfit are currently battling to retain their status in the Premier League, Wolves down in 17th place with the Foxes in 19th position.

As a result, their focus is on trying to remain in the top flight, at least one of the two clubs in line to suffer relegation to the Championship.

However, according to Football Insider, both teams are still taking the approach to contemplating potential additions for the 2025-26 campaign.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the progress of Bologna forward Santiago Castro as they add a new name to their shortlist of summer attacking options.

The Gunners' toothlessness in the final third reared its ugly head again on Sunday afternoon, where they were held to a disappointing 1-1 stalemate by Manchester United in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta's side had to rely on a well-struck Declan Rice leveller to steal a point from Old Trafford, as the absences of Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz hit them hard in the final third once again.

Arsenal did briefly defy their attacking injury crisis to put seven past PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League last week, but they have now found the back of the net just once in their last three top-flight games.

Manchester United are reportedly running the rule over Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Aynsley Pears as they search for a possible successor to Andre Onana.

Onana helped the Red Devils claim a 1-1 Premier League draw with title outsiders Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, where the Cameroonian could have done little about Declan Rice's equaliser.

However, the former Ajax man has once again come in for criticism owing to a number of high-profile mistakes in the 2024-25 season, where he has kept just eight clean sheets in 38 games across all competitions.

Head coach Ruben Amorim has given Onana his public backing, but the Red Devils hierarchy are said to be scoping out replacements for the 28-year-old, whose number two Altay Bayindir has not made himself first-choice material either.

The 19-year-old had made a total of two starts and eight substitute outings in all competitions for the Premier League outfit during 2024-25.

However, with Unai Emery instead choosing to sign Andres Garcia from Levante as extra competition for the right-back role, the decision was made for Nedeljkovic to move elsewhere.

Manchester City have reportedly sent scouts to assess the development of one of Crystal Palace's star players.

Having acquired four players in deals worth in excess of £170m during the winter transfer window, it has become apparent that Pep Guardiola has given the green light for a major rebuild at the Etihad Stadium.

Some of that talent has been integrated faster than others, yet the Spaniard is in the process of planning for the present and future with City currently down in fifth place in the Premier League table.

A number of positions will seemingly be targeted during the summer transfer window with right-back, centre-back and central midfield all areas of concern.

However, now in his third campaign at the Stadium of Light and having only developed on an upward trajectory, interest is only growing in the Englishman.
