Diego Costa complains about treatment from Spanish media

Spain and Chelsea striker Diego Costa complains that he is unfairly targeted by Spanish media because he was born in Brazil.

Diego Costa has claimed that he is unfairly targeted by the Spanish media because he was not born in the country.

The Brazilian-born striker switched his allegiances to Spain in 2014, but has since scored just one goal in 11 appearances for La Roja.

Costa replaced the injured Alvaro Morata during the first half of his side's 2-0 win over Belgium on Thursday evening, setting up the opening goal for David Silva, and the Chelsea man believes that he was not given enough praise for his performance.

"They criticise me a lot and if I played for Real Madrid or Barça and was a natural Spaniard they'd say I had a good game, possibly my best for the team," Costa told reporters.

"I didn't score but I can be useful to the team. I participated a lot in the game and I leave here happy, unlike in other games. I haven't done great things for Spain, I can't lie, but when I play well they should say so. They criticise me for my character, but I also have quality.

"A new era has started. I have faith in my teammates. It's true that I have unfinished business with scoring but today I felt good and the goals will come. I'd be more concerned if I didn't have chances, but the team is creating them and that's good. I will score soon."

Costa recently admitted that he wanted to leave Chelsea and return to Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window.
