Petr Cech: 'Arsene Wenger has pedigree and quality for England job'

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech believes that Arsene Wenger has the "pedigree and the quality" to become the next England manager.

Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has said that manager Arsene Wenger has the "pedigree and the quality" to become the next England boss.

A whole host of names have been linked with the vacant post since Roy Hodgson stepped down in the wake of England's ignominious Euro 2016 exit at the hands of Iceland, with Wenger one of those mentioned.

Some reports have claimed that the FA is willing to wait until the end of Wenger's contract at Arsenal next summer before making him an offer, but Cech believes that the 66-year-old is still committed to the Gunners.

"Obviously that is a question for Mr Wenger, if he would like to take this [England] job, but he is someone who has been coaching in England for such a long time, he definitely has the pedigree and the quality," Cech told Sky Sports News.

"He knows the atmosphere, the mentality and knows the expectation and the love England has for football, so obviously this is to his big advantage.

"But I think he is enjoying his time at Arsenal being a club manager, having the day-to-day job and it would be more of a question for him."

Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal for the past 20 years.
