Stan Collymore believes that James Maddison will cost himself a move to Manchester United with discipline issues like breaking COVID protocols.

Former Leicester City forward Stan Collymore has claimed that James Maddison's COVID protocol breach could cost him a move to Manchester United.

The playmaker was dismissed from the Foxes' squad for their game at West Ham United on Sunday, along with Hamza Choudhury and Ayoze Perez.

The trio reportedly broke COVID protocols and were punished by Brendan Rodgers, who says they will be available for Leicester's FA Cup semi-final clash against Southampton.

Writing in The Mirror, Collymore warned that Maddison's off-the-pitch discipline issues could cost him a move to a top European club, amid interest from Manchester United.

"Look, James, I've been where you are, you're a good-looking boy, you have disposable income, you're a good footballer and there are temptations, but you have to keep your eye on the prize," Collymore wrote in his column.

"Because, for the sake of a day or night out, these things can easily delay what a player wants to achieve by a year or two, or in extreme cases forever.

"Those in positions of power at Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona and Real Madrid will be taking note, too, and that's not what he wants at this stage of a promising career."

The 24-year-old has 11 goals and 10 assists in 33 appearances for Rodgers's side this season.
