PSV Eindhoven snatch late victory at Heracles

PSV Eindhoven score a last-minute goal to seal a narrow 2-1 victory away at Heracles in Sunday afternoon's Eredivisie clash at the Polman Arena.

PSV Eindhoven needed a last-minute goal to seal a narrow 2-1 victory away at Heracles in Sunday afternoon's Eredivisie clash at the Polman Arena and go four points clear at the top of the table.

The visitors dominated their opponents in the early stages, with Luuk de Jong, Georginio Wijnaldum and Memphis Depay all taking shots at goal within the first 10 minutes.

However, Heracles picked themselves up and had several efforts of their own, most notably through Simon Cziommer, before going on to break the deadlock on the half-hour mark when Bryan Linssen struck past Jeroen Zoet.

PSV pushed forward in a bid to pull a goal back, succeeding in equalising right on the stroke of half time when Depay's ball to De Jong ended with the 24-year-old putting the ball in the back of the net.

Both sides traded blows in the second half, with Cziommer threatening in the 52nd minute, while De Jong's shot in the 78th minute cannoned off the crossbar.

Just when it seemed like Heracles would secure an unlikely draw against the current league leaders, Karim Rekik popped up in second-half injury time to break the home crowd's hearts.

The result means that PSV are four points clear of second-placed Ajax at the top of the Eredivisie, while struggling Heracles are in 17th place, second from bottom.
