Jose Mourinho targets only "critical signings"

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho reveals that he will be in the market for a couple of "critical signings" in what will be an otherwise "quiet" summer transfer window.

Jose Mourinho has claimed that Chelsea will be "quiet" in the summer transfer window, with the exception of a couple of high-profile signings.

A striker is believed to be top of Mourinho's shortlist. Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa is a rumoured target, with one report claiming that the Blues have already agreed to meet his £32m release clause.

Mourinho would not confirm his interest in Costa on Friday, but did reveal that he is looking to bring in a couple of big-name players.

He told reporters: "The only thing I can see is that the market is closed. It opens as you know in the summer.

"Chelsea will be quite calm and quiet during that period. They won't be the noisy team selling and buying, buying and selling. We aren't going to be that kind of club.

"We are going to do, I would say, a couple of critical signings. Is a striker a target for us? Yes. Is Diego [Costa] a good player? Yes, he is but he's an Atletico Madrid player so I cannot say much."

Chelsea spent £35m in January to sign former player Nemanja Matic and Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah.
