Amorim 'eager' to bring two new goalkeepers in at Man United next season

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly considered buying two new goalkeepers this summer, following underwhelming performances from Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

Headlines were made at the weekend when Amorim told Onana to stay at home in order to regroup mentally ahead of their Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon on Thursday.

Onana was at fault for both Lyon goals in the 2-2 draw in the first leg, allowing Thiago Almada's cross to go through his hands for the opener, before palming a shot straight into the path of Rayan Cherki, who netted the late equaliser.

This came just a day after former Man United man and current Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic called Onana one of the worst goalkeepers in the club's history.

Paul Pogba has reportedly expressed his desire to join a club in one of Europe's top-five leagues in the summer.

The 2018 World Cup winner has been a free agent since leaving Juventus in November, shortly before his 18-month ban for a doping offence was set to end.

Pogba has been free to train and play since the start of 2025, after having his initial four-year ban reduced on appeal, but he is yet to put pen to paper with a new club.

At 32, and having been out of the game for so long, there are some doubts about Pogba's physical state, but if he is on the market, he is undoubtedly going to be snapped up by a club over the summer.

Experienced Man United duo 'expected to leave' this summer

Manchester United are reportedly expected to part ways with two of their most experienced squad members at the end of the season.

With United enduring their worst-ever Premier League campaign, a comprehensive rebuild under Ruben Amorim is an inevitability ahead of the summer transfer window.

Red Devils officials will first need to determine what level of revenue is coming into the club, a Europa League trophy required to secure Champions League qualification for 2025-26.

Nevertheless, United will naturally look to free up spaces in their squad, ensuring that they continue to lower the wage bill when they need to strengthen their position with the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

"Multiple players": Why Reds need multiple additions to replace Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool will need multiple players to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold
© Imago

Liverpool will need to sign multiple players in the upcoming summer window to replicate the impact of Trent Alexander-Arnold on the team, Reds transfer expert David Lynch has claimed.

The Reds beat West Ham United 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday and moved to within two victories of securing the Premier League title, but perhaps news of Mohamed Salah signing a new contract at the club overshadowed the Merseysiders' win.

While captain Virgil van Dijk is also reportedly close to signing a new deal, reports have suggested that vice-captain Alexander Arnold is likely to leave, and his exit could significantly damage Liverpool's ability to create chances.

Lynch argued that Alexander-Arnold's impact with the ball can only be replicated through the addition of multiple players, telling Sports Mole: "You can't sign a right-back who can progress the ball in that way he can because he's the only one in world football [who can], which is why he's wanted by Real Madrid and why he's been so fantastic for Liverpool. That player doesn't exist.

Cunha still delivered his 14th Premier League goal of the campaign on Sunday afternoon as he came off the substitutes' bench to score in the 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Arsenal legend Nigel Winterburn cannot envisage his former side bringing in two strikers to aid their Premier League title charge for 2025-26, unlike a fellow Gunners great.

Mikel Arteta's team have held off on splashing the cash on a new centre-forward for a couple of years, but this summer should finally be the one where the Gunners welcome a new number nine to the club.

Winterburn's ex-Arsenal teammate Ray Parlour recently suggested that the North London giants could even try for two strikers this summer, while also name-checking Ipswich Town's Liam Delap as an option that the Gunners should pursue.

However, speaking exclusively to Sports Mole, Winterburn - a three-time English top-flight title winner - shot down the notion that Arsenal could bring in more than one centre-forward and also suggested that Delap may opt for a team where he is guaranteed weekly starts.

Manchester United have reportedly made a decision over the futures of Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the summer transfer window.

Both strikers have failed to reach the heights expected since moving to Old Trafford, scoring just six goals between them in what has been a disastrous 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Hojlund, who joined Man United from Atalanta BC for a reported £72m in the summer of 2023, has found the net just eight times in 43 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring just once in his last 26 games over the last four months.

Meanwhile, Zirkzee completed a £42m transfer to Man United from Bologna last summer and has scored seven goals in 48 matches across all tournaments, including three strikes in 21 games since the turn of the year.

The soon-to-be 23-year-old, who penned a contract until 2028, has since featured regularly under Seagulls head coach Fabian Hurzeler this season, featuring in 32 matches across all competitions.

Why Gibbs-White transfer would be "a very expensive gamble" for City after Wirtz blow

SM-EK MGW/FW composite

Manchester City expert Steven McInerney from Esteemed Kompany is "not optimistic" about the Citizens' chances of signing Florian Wirtz this summer, but Pep Guardiola's side will require a "serious signing" of his calibre to replace Kevin De Bruyne.

It was announced by De Bruyne earlier this month that the Belgian playmaker will be leaving Man City when his contract expires at the end of the season after 10 glittering years at the Etihad Stadium.

One name who has regularly been linked with a move to the Citizens is Bayer Leverkusen star Wirtz, who is widely regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in world football and at the age of just 21 has already recorded 56 goals and 63 assists in 192 games for the Bundesliga club.

Newcastle United have reportedly won the race to sign Malaga's teenage winger Antonio Cordero this summer.

The 18-year-old has regularly been linked with a move to St James' Park, while he has also attracted interest from a number of other top European clubs.

La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been credited with an interest in Cordero, while Portuguese giants Porto are understood to have approached the winger.

It has previously been suggested that Malaga will find it difficult to keep hold of Cordero, who is due to see his contract with the Spanish second-tier club expire at the end of June.

Dubbed the 'next Martin Odegaard', the 18-year-old has been making an impact back in Norway since being handed his Eliterserien debut in 2022.

Despite his young age, a total of 14 goals and 11 assists have come from 62 appearances in the first team, including eight goals and seven assists in the most recent edition of Norway's top flight.

However, with a contract until the end of 2026, it is inevitable that a transfer to a bigger club will materialise over one of the upcoming transfer windows.

Leeds United have reportedly established when they intend to make a decision over the future of Manor Solomon.

Having suffered a serious knee injury during his early months at Tottenham Hotspur, the winger soon dropped down the pecking order under Ange Postecoglou.

As such, a loan switch to Championship giants Leeds United was facilitated last summer in an effort to get the 25-year-old's career back on track.

The arrangement has proven to be an overwhelming success, the Israel international contributing eight goals and nine assists from his 35 appearances in the Championship.
