There was late drama in the Russian capital, but
Manchester City have the win!
Zoran Tosic gave the hosts the lead before two goals from
Sergio Aguero saw the Blues pick up the points. What an incredible finish!
FULL TIME: CSKA 1-2 MAN CITY
FULL TIME: CSKA 1-2 MAN CITY
CHANCE! Nearly a late equaliser for Honda as he pops up at the back post, but Hart makes a superb save to keep the ball out!
The fourth official indicates that there will be a minimum of three added minutes.
SUBSTITUTION: A final change for Man City sees Gael Clichy on for Sergio Aguero. Not long to go now.
Tosic directs a tame effort at goal from 25 yards that Hart gets down easily to collect.
The visitors have five minutes of normal time plus stoppage time to negotiate before they are rewarded with their second win of the tournament. It's sure to be a nervy final few stages in Moscow.
CHANCE! Man City come within inches of wrapping this game up through Dzeko, but the Bosnian could only poke the ball wide following Toure's knockdown from a cross.
There's some sad news being reported that Yaya Toure has been subjected to racist abuse by some sections of the CSKA fans tonight. Expect UEFA to get involved in that.
SUBSTITUTION: Another change for Man City here as Samir Nasri is introduced in place of David Silva. Just over 10 minutes remaining in Moscow.
YELLOW CARD: Pablo Zabaleta rightly goes into the book for chopping down Musa.
There's little to suggest that Man City are in danger of losing this match at the moment, but they will be aware that they are by no means home and dry. The visitors continue to control the game, though CSKA continue to look busy on the break.
SHOT! Tosic tries his luck from about 25 yards as CSKA look for a way back into this match, only to see his effort drift wide of Hart's post.
SUBSTITUTION: Man City make their first change of the match as Edin Dzeko comes on for
Alvaro Negredo. Meanwhile, Ahmed Musa is booked for CSKA after going down too easily inside the penalty box under the challenge of Javi Garcia.
Man City come close to getting a third goal as Silva gets a shot away inside the box but he slipped just as he connected with the ball, allowing Akinfeev to gather.
YELLOW CARD: Yaya Toure is the latest player to go into the book for a trip on Milanov as CSKA looked to break.
A better ball there from Negredo and Aguero could have had his hat-trick. Negredo tried to thread the ball through to his strike partner but it had to much on it, allowing CSKA to deal with the danger.
It's unclear whether a flare has been set off, but there's plenty of smoke swirling around the pitch at the Arena Khimki at the moment.
Man City win a free kick right on the edge of the box after Toure is blocked off, but Kolarov can only shoot wide. Sergei Ignashevich goes into the book for the foul on Toure.
SUBSTITUTION: CSKA make an early change at the start of the second half as Ahmed Musa replaces Steven Zuber.
SAVE! That's a good stop from Akinfeev, who had to get down low to keep Toure's header out following Silva's cross.
GOAL DISALLOWED! Man City think they have a third goal through Negredo, but the referee blows his whistle for handball. The Spaniard is unfortunate to see that one chalked off as the ball bobbled up and hit him on it's way into the net from Navas's cross. To compound Negredo's misery, he's been booked.
The players are back out and it will be Man City who get us underway.
All in all that was a fairly entertaining opening 45 minutes of football. Man City will be disappointed with the goal that they conceded, but they deserve to be ahead.
The half-time whistle goes and it's Man City who lead 2-1 thanks to a brace from Sergio Aguero. Zoran Tosic put the home side ahead before the pint-sized striker turned this game around.
HALF TIME: CSKA 1-2 MAN CITY
YELLOW CARD: CSKA's Pontus Wernbloom goes into the book for a deliberate handball.
Man City have turned this around thanks to a second goal from Sergio Aguero! Credit must go to Negredo for the way the Spaniard worked some space inside the area before crossing into his strike partner, who put his head in where it hurts to nod home. What a marksman he is.
GOAL! CSKA 1-2 MAN CITY (AGUERO)
Five minutes of normal time left in this first half and both teams are pushing forward whenever they're on the ball.
UPDATE: Crystal Palace have officially parted company with manager Ian Holloway. You can read more about that breaking story
here.
Well, what a breathless last few minutes we've just had. The CSKA opener came against the run of play, but Man City responded in the best way possible as they caught their opponents cold.
And just like that, Man City equalise through Sergio Aguero! Silva does well to make a run down the left side before crossing into the Argentine, who gets in front of his marker to poke the ball home from close range.
GOAL! CSKA 1-1 MAN CITY (AGUERO)
CSKA take the lead and it's former Manchester United winger Tosic who gets the goal! But what a poor one it is for Man City to concede. A long punt forward is flicked on by Honda, who somehow rises above Garcia, before Tosic lifts the ball over the onrushing Hart. First blood to the Russians!
GOAL! CSKA 1-0 MAN CITY (TOSIC)
CHANCE! Another good opportunity comes Man City's way as Negredo sees his shot saved by Akinfeev. Silva picked out his fellow Spaniard who was lurking in the centre of the box, but Negredo's tame effort went straight at the goalkeeper.
Credit to the fans of both teams - they're creating a great atmosphere inside the stadium. There has been constant signing right from kickoff.
Something of a half-chance for CSKA as Honda works some space on the edge of the box, but the Japanese international's shot is blocked by the visiting defence. Despite Man City being the better team so far, CSKA have had their moments.
CHANCE! Man City get a good opportunity through Aguero, who thought he has less time than he actually did. The Argentine got onto the end of Toure's cross, only to head well over from about 10 yards.
Good defending again from Man City, this time through Kolarov. Tosic led a quick CSKA counter-attack, only for the full-back to recover well and win back possession for the visitors.
It's Nastasic to the rescue for Man City as Garcia was dispossessed, allowing Doumbia through on goal. He only had Nastasic to beat, but the centre-back put in a superb last-ditch tackle before the ball was cleared.
CHANCE! Nearly the opening goal for Man City! Toure and Zabaleta link well down the right before the defender floats in a cross towards Aguero. However, the Argentine connects poorly with his acrobatic volley and the ball goes wide. You'd expect him to do better there considering how lethal he is in the box.
CSKA now threaten as Tosic gets the ball out on the right side, but the former Manchester United winger's cross is a poor one that goes out of play at Hart's near post. Tosic and Honda have looked like the home side's most dangerous players so far.
The visitors are just starting to take a bit of control in this match. Their midfield is being afforded some time on the ball, and that could spell disaster for CSKA if they allow that to continue to happen.
Man City get an early effort away as Kolarov lashes the ball high and wide from all of 30 yards.
SUBSTITUTION: CSKA are forced into an early change as Vasili Berezutski replaces his twin brother Aleksei Berezutski. It's not entirely clear why Vasili is coming off as he dashes towards the touchline. Mistaken identity?!
It's been a decent start to the match as both teams look to surge forward whenever they are in possession. The pitch hasn't been too problematic so far, though the ball is bobbling around just a touch.
Early danger for Man City as ball over the top causes problems, but Hart is off his line quickly to hoof it away.
Right. The pre-match rituals have been completed and it will be CSKA to get us underway. Here we go!
The players are in the tunnel ready to walk out onto the pitch at the Arena Khimki. Not long to go now.
HEAD TO HEAD: CSKA have come up against English opposition before in the form of Manchester United, Aston Villa, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, but they've never come up against Man City.
Around 15 minutes until kickoff. One thing that will please Manuel Pellegrini at least is that there is currently no rain in Moscow.
Anyway, back to business. It would not be too fanciful to presume that Bayern Munich will move onto nine points with a win against Viktoria Plzen later tonight. If that were to happen, it makes this game that bit more important in terms of the outcome of Group D.
Talking of the Premier League, there are plenty of rumours circulating that Ian Holloway has left his position as Crystal Palace manager by mutual consent. The club have called a press conference for 5.30pm.
For the record, CSKA are currently in sixth place in the Russian Premier League, while Man City are in fourth place in the English Premier League.
RECENT FORM:
CSKA: LDLWLL
MAN CITY: WWLLWW
CSKA were also on the end of a beating from Bayern as they lost their opening fixture of the tournament 3-1, but they picked up their first points of the campaign last time out thanks to a 3-2 triumph over Viktoria Plzen.
Man City got their campaign off to a brilliant start last month thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win over Viktoria Plzen, but they were brought back down to Earth in their next match as the went down 3-1 at home to holders Bayern.
So, how have these two teams fared so far in this season's competition? Man City currently lead CSKA in the Group D table on goal difference, with both sides taking three points from their first two matches. Bayern Munich lead the way with six points, while Viktoria Plzen prop up the standings with a big fat zero.
Going back to the issues concerning the pitch, Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini has been very vocal in his criticism of the playing surface. He described it as
"unbelievable" last night.
Not a bad looking bench for Man City, is it?
MAN CITY SUBS: Pantillimon, Richards, Lescott, Clichy, Nasri, Dzeko, Jovetic
In case you haven't heard, there has been plenty of controversy surrounding the pitch for tonight's match. A bucket load of rain over the past couple of weeks has caused havoc to the playing surface in Moscow, resulting in CSKA's groundsmen having to lay plenty of sand down on top of the grass. But here comes the funny bit: those same groundsmen have actually painted parts of the pitch green as if to give the illusion of lush turf.
CSKA: Akinfeev; Nababkin, Berezutsky, Ignashevich, Schennikov; Wernbloom, Milanov, Tosic, Honda; Zuber, Musa
City boss Manuel Pellegrini has made three changes to the side that beat West Ham United in the Premier League on the weekend. Micah Richards, Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri are out, while Pablo Zabaleta, Aleksandar Kolarov and Jesus Navas come in to the starting XI. We'll bring you news of the substitutes as soon as we get it.
MAN CITY: Hart; Zabaleta, Garcia, Nastasic, Kolarov; Navas, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva; Aguero, Negredo
