Arsenal must reportedly be prepared to participate in an auction for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres in order to win the race for the in-demand forward.

Mikel Arteta's side were held to a frustrating 1-1 stalemate by Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, and they fell 13 points behind first-placed Liverpool following their win against West Ham United on Sunday.

The Gunners face the prospect of finishing second for a third consecutive season, and supporters will be keen to avoid falling short in the race for the title next term.

Many fans and pundits have argued that the team are close to getting across the finish line but need to sign a striker in order to finally win the league.

Manchester City are reportedly determined to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba in order to bolster their defence ahead of the 2025-26 season.

Pep Guardiola's side emerged as 5-2 victors against Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, though they had to come back from a two-goal deficit to claim all three points.

However, the Citizens are only in fifth place with 55 points - one more than sixth-placed Chelsea - and face a battle to qualify for the Champions League.

The champions' poor showings can be excused by key injuries to an extent, but they will almost certainly need to spend significantly in the summer to mount a title challenge next season.

Red Devils face 'competition' from rivals City for £52m Serie A midfielder

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on Atalanta BC midfielder Ederson, but they are braced for competition from Manchester City for his signature.

Boss Ruben Amorim presided over the Red Devils' 4-1 Premier League defeat against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon, a result that left the club in 13th place with just 38 points.

United could salvage their season should they win the Europa League and qualify for the Champions League, but having drawn 2-2 with Lyon in the first leg of the sides' quarter-final tie last Thursday, progress in the competition is by no means certain.

Amorim will be keen to avoid experiencing a similar campaign next term, but it is difficult to see how he can rescue the club without significant backing in the summer transfer window.

Liverpool have reportedly named their asking price for struggling attacker Federico Chiesa, who is being strongly linked with a return to Serie A in the summer window.

The Reds appeared to have pulled off one of the bargains of the summer when they signed the Euro 2020 winner from Juventus for just £12.5m, including a £10m upfront fee and just £2.5m in add-ons.

However, Chiesa has endured a forgettable first season in English football, making just 12 appearances in all competitions for Arne Slot's side and contributing two goals and two assists.

The 27-year-old is still waiting to make his first start in the Premier League and only has 33 top-flight minutes to his name this season, thanks both to injuries and the stunning form of Mohamed Salah.

Manchester United have supposedly jumped to the head of the queue for Lyon attacker Rayan Cherki, who haunted them in the Europa League last week.

The Red Devils were left to rue what could have been as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Les Gones in the first leg of their quarter-final last Thursday, where Cherki struck a last-gasp leveller.

The 21-year-old benefitted from Andre Onana's second howler of the night to rescue a stalemate for Lyon, who now have something to take to Old Trafford for next week's return fixture.

Cherki's late leveller took the Frenchman onto 10 goals for the term in all competitions, and the Lyon attacker has also registered an astounding 18 assists from 37 games during a fabulous 2024-25 season.

Arsenal are reportedly plotting to make a £35m move for Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler, who is struggling to make a name for himself under Carlo Ancelotti.

The Gunners and Los Blancos will soon meet for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, where Mikel Arteta's men have an astonishing 3-0 lead to protect from last Tuesday's opening contest.

Guler was an unused substitute as his side were slain at the Emirates, and the Turkey international is yet to play a single minute of knockout football in this season's Champions League.

Guler has still appeared on 33 occasions for Ancelotti's side this season, banking three goals and seven assists, but he has started just seven La Liga games and one in the Champions League.

"Free up more cash": The impact of Alexander-Arnold's exit on Salah and Van Dijk

Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit could free up more money for Liverpool
© Imago

Trent Alexander-Arnold's exit from Liverpool to Real Madrid could have somewhat of a positive impact on the club's ability to agree contract extensions with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, Reds expert David Lynch has claimed.

Curtis Jones started as the team's right-back in place of Alexander-Arnold when the Merseysiders were beaten 3-2 by Fulham on April 6 in the Premier League, while Conor Bradley started on Sunday against West Ham.

Supporters may soon grow accustomed to the vice-captain's absence given he has been linked with a move to Spain, but some fans have speculated that his exit could allow the Reds to divert funds to Salah and Van Dijk, the former of whom has signed a new deal.

Lynch acknowledged that Liverpool would have more money available for contract negotiations, but he questioned whether the club would use the right-back's wages directly on Van Dijk or Salah, telling Sports Mole: "It certainly does free up more cash - if you're not having to pay Trent Alexander-Arnold, your first-choice right-back 300 grand a week, there's more money to play with.

Liverpool are reportedly keen to sign Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella during this summer's transfer window.

The Reds are expected to boost their midfield options at the end of the campaign, with head coach Arne Slot believed to be keen to add more depth and quality in the middle to aid Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

According to Fichajes, Barella has been identified by the Merseyside giants as a leading target, but it will not be a straightforward deal due to his importance for Inter, who are believed to value him in the region of €100m (£87m).

The report claims that senior figures at Liverpool have identified the Italy international as the ideal player to add to their squad this summer.

Guerra has been vital in Valencia's recent upturn, and the midfielder scored the only goal of the match in Friday's 1-0 success over Sevilla, which made it four wins from Los Che's last five matches during an excellent run.

There has recently been speculation surrounding his future, with Atletico Madrid, Napoli and Porto all said to have made approaches for the midfielder during the January transfer window.

The Writing is on the Wall: Man United stars 'lose faith' in struggling Onana

Several Manchester United players have reportedly turned on Andre Onana following the Cameroonian's disastrous performance against Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday night.

Onana was involved in a war of words with Lyon midfielder Nemanja Matic ahead of the match, which began when the Red Devils goalkeeper said that his side should have too much quality for the French team in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Matic branded Onana "one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United history" during a staggering attack, but the 2023 arrival from Inter Milan was unable to answer back with a strong performance.

Onana allowed a Thiago Almada free kick to sail into the back of the net to give Lyon an advantage in the 25th minute, before he fumbled a strike from Georges Mikautadze late on into a dangerous area, which allowed Rayan Cherki to score.
