Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is "disappointed" at not qualifying for the Europa League, but believes that this will help them in the Premier League.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini believes that his side's exit from Europe will help them in the Premier League.

City went down 1-0 at Borussia Dortmund in their final Champions League Group D game on Tuesday and failed to qualify for the Europa League.

"Getting into the Europa League was our target tonight," BBC Sport quotes the Italian as saying. "We wanted to win but to win we needed to score.

"It will help [in the Premier League] because we are not in the Europa League but at the moment we cannot think about this. We are not in the Europa League and for this we should be disappointed.

"Last season we did better. This year we had a very difficult group and if you make a mistake in the first two or three games it is very difficult."

City finished bottom of Group D with just three points from six matches.
