Frank Lampard can't wait to "go up against" Steven Gerrard in MLS

Frank Lampard admits that he is relishing facing Steven Gerrard in MLS next season.

Frank Lampard has admitted that he can't wait to go head to head with Steven Gerrard when the pair begin their MLS careers next season.

Lampard will team up with New York City FC following a loan spell at Manchester City, while Gerrard will join Los Angeles Galaxy and close a 25-year career at Liverpool.

"I am pleased for Stevie," Goal.com quotes Lampard as saying. "I think it is a very good move for him. What more can he do for Liverpool? He has had a fantastic career. It helps with the interest here, people seeing it on TV over here now.

"I look forward to being competitive against Stevie. We get on very well, particularly in our latter years as captain and vice-captain of England. I have a huge amount of respect for him and I look forward to going up against him."

Lampard and Gerrard are expected to face each other at the StubHub Center on August 23.
