Carrick "comfortable" in holding midfield role

Michael Carrick has revealed that he would be happy to fill the holding midfield void in the England team.

Following the retirements of both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard, as well as an injury suffered by Jack Wilshere, Carrick has been tipped to feature in that role during the upcoming clashes against Lithuania and Italy.

When asked about that possibility, the 33-year-old admitted that it was his preferred position.

"It is a certain position that I'm used to and suited to playing. So if that's what manager wants to do then great. That's where I'm comfortable," the Manchester United player told reporters.

Carrick made his debut for the Three Lions in 2001, but he has only earned 31 caps since then.
