Jermain Defoe claims that Spurs "deserve" to be in the Champions League next season.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe has said that Spurs "deserve" to be in the Champions League next season.

The London club, who finished the season in fourth place in the Premier League, will now lose their place in the competition after Chelsea – who finished in sixth – were victorious in the Champions League final last night.

"We wanted to finish in the top four at the start of the season and we've done that," he said.

"We wanted to finish third, we finished fourth and I think we deserve to be in the Champions League next season."

Tottenham will now take part in the Europa League.
