Jesse Lingard: 'I turned down Liverpool move'

Jesse Lingard reveals that he turned down the chance to join Liverpool as a youngster to sign for Manchester United.

Jesse Lingard has revealed that he turned down the chance to join Liverpool at the age of seven and signed for Manchester United instead.

The 22-year-old has been involved with the United first team this season, scoring once in seven appearances, and has been rewarded with his first call-up to the England squad as a result.

Lingard has admitted that, as a United fan, he only wanted to sign for the Old Trafford club when offered the chance.

"I was at a local club called Penketh United and Mike Glennie, a Manchester United scout, came to watch me," Lingard told MUTV.

"He spoke to my grandad and offered me trials, but there was also interest from Liverpool and I had to pick. I was only young, but obviously my heart was with United at the time."

Lingard has made eight senior appearances for United.
