Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale is the favourite to win the PFA Player of the Year award ahead of Robin van Persie, according to The Mirror.

Bale has been pivotal in Spurs' charge towards the Premier League top-four this season and has scored 19 goals in the league, including in their 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

The Welshman will beat Van Persie to the prestigious prize despite the striker scoring five more goals and being part of the Manchester United team to win the Premier League.

Bale has also beaten Chelsea's Eden Hazard to the award which is scheduled to be announced later today.
