Lille ordered to pay Genk £215,000 in compensation over Divock Origi transfer

Lille forced to pay £215,000 in compensation to Genk in relation to the 2010 transfer of now-Liverpool striker Divock Origi.

Lille have been ordered to pay €300,000 (£215,000) to Genk in compensation over the transfer of Divock Origi, who will join Liverpool this summer.

The French outfit signed the striker when he was 15 years old in 2010 from Genk, who argued to FIFA that they deserved compensation, despite not offering the youngster a new deal.

After taking the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, it was ruled that Genk qualified for compensation as they could not offer a new deal to Origi as he was under the age of 16 at that point.

A statement from CAS read: "The arbitration body has calculated the amount of the training compensation due and has ordered the payment of €300,000 (£215,000) from LOSC Lille Metropole to KRC Genk."

Origi signed for Liverpool for a fee in the region of £10m last year, but spent the season back at Lille on loan.
