Tim Sherwood: 'Brendan Rodgers could manage Real Madrid'

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood believes that Brendan Rodgers could have become Real Madrid manager had he won the league with Liverpool two years ago.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has suggested that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers might have been at Real Madrid, had he guided his team to the Premier League title two years ago.

Liverpool finished two points behind Manchester City in the 2013-14 Premier League season, but Rodgers has since come under pressure after failing to win in his last four games.

However, Sherwood admitted that he has not become a bad manager overnight and things might have been different had he brought the Reds their first league title since 1990.

The 46-year-old told reporters: "After that season, they finished second. If they'd won the league, could they have kept hold of Brendan Rodgers?

"They would have tried everything - and they did. He signed a new contract after that. All of a sudden, he doesn't turn into a bad manager, it's fine margins. We might have seen him at Real Madrid.

"Why wouldn't we have seen him there? He'd have won the English Premier League with a team who hasn't won it for God knows how many years."

Sherwood's Aston Villa head to Anfied to take on Rodgers's Liverpool later today.
