James Milner thinks that Manchester City need to defeat Liverpool in order to get over their Champions League disappointment.

Manchester City midfielder James Milner thinks that Roberto Mancini's side can "bounce back" from their disappointing Champions League defeat by causing an upset at Liverpool this Sunday.

The North West club look unlikely to reach the knockout stages of the elite European tournament after losing 2-1 to Napoli on Tuesday.

"We're a strong group of players, mentally as well. We still have confidence in ourselves," said Milner. "[The Napoli defeat] is a massive disappointment but it's all part of football.

"It's a learning curve for us. We have to make sure we bounce back from this but learn from it also.

"We're disappointed but we will pick ourselves up and go again on Sunday at Anfield and make sure we bounce back with a good performance and get a win."

The two sides go head to head for the first time this season on Merseyside at the weekend.
