Sir Alex Ferguson 'boosted' by Didier Drogba departure

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Chelsea will miss the influence of Ivorian striker Didier Drogba.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes that Chelsea will be weaker without Didier Drogba in their squad.

The Ivorian brought an end to his eight-year stint at Stamford Bridge this summer by joining Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua on a free transfer.

Discussing the striker's departure, Ferguson said that the Blues will miss the impact of a player who scored numerous goals on their way to winning the FA Cup and Champions League last season.

"When you think of the season he's just had, I must say it is a big boost for us that Drogba is leaving Chelsea," Ferguson told The People.

"He scored that fantastic goal in the final with two minutes to go and his goalscoring record in the big games, in big finals, is incredible.

"As far as I was concerned, he won the Champions League for Chelsea."

Drogba made his competitive Chelsea debut against Ferguson's United.
