How Real Madrid could line up against Villarreal

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up against Villarreal in Sunday's La Liga clash at the Bernabeu.

Zinedine Zidane has three games remaining to experiment with his Real Madrid side ahead of a huge summer of transfer activity, starting with the visit of Villarreal this weekend.

Los Blancos have endured a terrible campaign, collecting just 65 points from their opening 35 top-flight matches - their lowest figure at this stage since the 2001-02 season (also 65).

Madrid have looked stale all campaign, particularly in recent weeks as they have dropped points against Leganes, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano in the space of four matches.

Zidane will want a response from his players when an in-form Villarreal arrive in the Spanish capital on Sunday.

Ahead of that match, Sports Mole looks at how Madrid could line up for their penultimate home game of the season.

Out: Alvaro Odriozola (broken collarbone), Sergio Ramos (calf), Karim Benzema (hamstring)
Doubtful: Vinicius Junior (shin)

The biggest worry for Zidane ahead of his side's final three matches is that Benzema, the only player to score for Madrid in the month of April, is out with a hamstring injury.

Skipper Ramos is also unlikely to play a part this season, though Zidane already knows all he needs to know about both long-serving players.

The Frenchman will instead want to run the rule over some of his fringe players, such as Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio, though the former hardly made the most of his opportunity against Rayo Vallecano last time out.

Zidane has rotated his forward line and midfield in recent matches, and this may be a good opportunity to restore his favoured trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric.
