How Manchester City could line up against Burnley

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for Wednesday's Premier League trip to Burnley.

Manchester City will be confident of consolidating their lead at the top of the Premier League when they make the trip to Burnley on Wednesday evening.

The Citizens head into the match on a 12-game winning streak in all competitions, with eight of those victories coming in the top flight.

Pep Guardiola rotated his side slightly for the 1-0 win over Sheffield United at the weekend, but he is expected to go with his strongest XI again at Turf Moor.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how league leaders City could line up.

Guardiola remains without star player Kevin De Bruyne, who is still at least a few weeks away from returning, while back-up defender Nathan Ake is also out with a muscular issue.

Sergio Aguero announced on Sunday that he has recovered from coronavirus, however, and could be in line for his latest return to action against Burnley.

The club-record scorer is unlikely to start, with Gabriel Jesus the favourite to get the nod through the middle.

Guardiola has plenty of options out wide, and after being rested against Sheffield United it is expected that Raheem Sterling will be recalled.

Riyad Mahrez scored one and set up another against West Bromwich Albion in his most recent appearance and will be hopeful of getting the nod on the other flank.

The Algeria international has scored more Premier League goals against Burnley than he has versus any other side (eight), including seven in his last four against the Clarets.

John Stones and Joao Cancelo are two others in line for recalls to the starting lineup as City look to make it eight clean sheets in nine matches.
