How Man Utd could line up against Brighton

Manchester United could be without as many as seven players for their final Premier League fixture of the season away against Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.

Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire (both muscle), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Mason Mount (unspecified) and Anthony Martial (groin) are all set to miss the trip to the Amex Stadium due to injury, the latter may have already played his final game for the club as he is out of contract in June.

Raphael Varane, who has confirmed that he is leaving the club this summer, has recently been nursing a muscle issue, but he has been back on the grass in light training this week along with Victor Lindelof (hamstring), so they may be ready to return to the matchday squad on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag was boosted by the return to fitness of Lisandro Martinez for Wednesday's 3-2 win over Newcastle United, with the Argentine making a cameo substitute appearance. It remains uncertain as to whether he is ready to start on Sunday, though, so Casemiro could once again be tasked with slotting into centre-back next to Jonny Evans.

Sofyan Amrabat and Kobbie Mainoo both impressed in midweek, the latter scored the opener, and both midfielders are in contention to retain their starting spots, as is Scott McTominay, although either of those could make way if Ten Hag opts to recall one of his attackers.

Ten Hag decided to bench Rasmus Hojlund in midweek and give the striker a rest after 10 consecutive starts. The Dane scored just three minutes after coming on as a substitute against Newcastle and he will be pushing to return up front against Brighton, which would allow captain Bruno Fernandes - who played as a false nine versus the Magpies - to move into his preferred number 10 role.

Marcus Rashford recovered from a minor injury to make a cameo substitute appearance in midweek and he will also be looking to force his way back into the first XI, although he faces competition from both Amad Diallo - who scored his first Premier League goal against Newcastle - and Alejandro Garnacho.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro, Evans, Dalot; Amrabat, Mainoo; Diallo, Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund
