Gary Neville: 'Liverpool should forget Champions League'

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville insists that Liverpool should forget about the Champions League this season.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has said that Liverpool should forget about the Champions League this season and concentrate on challenging for the Premier League title.

The Reds have only won two of their last six Premier League matches, which has seen them fall behind reigning champions Manchester City at the top of the table.

As well as challenging for the championship, Liverpool are also eyeing Champions League glory and will travel to Bayern Munich next week for the second leg of their last-16 tie, which is level at 0-0 from the first leg.

Neville, though, has said that Jurgen Klopp's side should "go out" against Bayern to keep their Premier League title challenge alive.

"Getting points on the board is a big advantage. I always thought that if Liverpool could win the league this season then they'd need a clean fixture list," Neville told Sky Sports News.

"I'm going to say it: go out against Bayern Munich. That sounds like madness. Of course, you'd never play to lose a game but it will be in Liverpool's favour if they have a clean run as they can get everyone fresh.

"City have got a couple of FA Cup games, where Liverpool could go five or six points in front. That's tough to pull back in the closing weeks. This title race is still 50-50."

Liverpool will return to Premier League action at home to Burnley on Sunday afternoon.
