Liverpool prepare to open contract talks with club captain Jordan Henderson, according to a report.

Liverpool are reportedly preparing to open contract discussions with captain Jordan Henderson.

The 31-year-old has made 392 appearances for the Reds since arriving from Sunderland in 2011, but he was restricted to just 28 outings last term due to a groin injury, which almost saw him miss Euro 2020.

Henderson's current deal at Anfield is due to expire in June 2023, but according to The Mirror, the Merseyside giants are ready to open discussions over an extension.

The report claims that Liverpool could hand the experienced midfielder the opportunity to finish his career at Anfield, with his leadership qualities on and off the field valued by the club.

Henderson returned from injury to feature on five occasions for England at Euro 2020, coming off the bench in their fixtures with the Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark and Italy.

The former Sunderland youngster has won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time with the Reds.
