Former West Ham United midfielder Jack Collison believes that it would be "typical" of the club to arrest their poor form by ending Liverpool's 40-game unbeaten streak.

Former West Ham United midfielder Jack Collison has insisted that it would be "typical" of the club to arrest their poor form with victory over runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Wednesday night.

The Hammers go into their game in hand sitting 17th in the Premier League table, 44 points adrift of their visitors and only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have dropped only two points from the last 96 available in the Premier League and are unbeaten in their last 40 games, but Collison is refusing to rule out the possibility of an upset at the London Stadium.

"It doesn't get much tougher than Liverpool coming to your place on Wednesday night. It would be typical West Ham for them to be in the position they're in and then go and be the first team to beat Liverpool in 40-odd games. You can imagine," Collison told Sports Mole.

"It's a game the fans will be looking forward to each season, you want these big clubs coming to your home ground. Obviously Liverpool are playing such good stuff at the moment but it's an opportunity for the team to put out a performance and show that spirit and fight, that they're willing to work hard and put it in between now and the end of the season.

"I'm sure David Moyes will have them set up and tough to beat, and hopefully the likes of [Michail] Antonio will be fit, firing and you get the opportunity on the day to try and put one or two away."

Defeat by four goals would see West Ham slip into the relegation zone, whereas an even heavier loss would see them sink to 19th ahead of the weekend.
