Preview: Millwall vs. Huddersfield Town

Sports Mole previews the Championship clash between Millwall and Huddersfield Town.

Millwall have the chance to climb out of the relegation zone when they play host to Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.

In what has been a difficult season for Ian Holloway and his players, there was a rare moment of celebration as they piled the misery on struggling Nottingham Forest with a 1-0 victory last weekend.

It was a win which pulled Millwall further clear of Blackpool at the bottom of the table, and they head into the weekend just two points behind Brighton & Hove Albion, who currently occupy 21st spot in the Championship.

The battle to avoid relegation looks certain to go on until the final couple of matches of the season, but Holloway will be fully aware that building momentum now could be vital.

A win this weekend would bring up successive victories for the first time since August, but they search for that achievement against a side that beat them 2-1 in the reverse fixture back in September.

However, Huddersfield make the trip to the capital short of confidence after conceding a 90th-minute goal to Leeds United in a 2-1 loss to their Yorkshire rivals last weekend.

Despite the disappointment, there was a feeling of relief a few hours after the final whistle as it was revealed that Tommy Smith had escaped serious injury to the head after being airlifted to hospital following a collision with Joe Murphy.

Smith returned to training earlier this week after the scare, and the defender is now pushing to keep his place in the side as Huddersfield aim to close the gap on the sides in the top half of the table.

Huddersfield boss Chris Powell could hand a debut to Ishmael Miller after the striker moved to the club from Blackpool on transfer deadline day, with Nahki Wells set to miss out through injury.

Holloway could name a debutant of his own in the Millwall side following Michael Tonge's loan switch from Leeds United.
