Jose Mourinho defends media snub

Jose Mourinho defends his decision to blank the media after Real Madrid's 1-1 draw with Villarreal last weekend.

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has defended his decision to blank the media following their 1-1 draw with Villarreal last weekend.

The Portuguese boss refused to speak to the press after being frustrated by several refereeing calls during the contest, in which he and playing duo Sergio Ramos and Mesut Ozil were all sent off.

Mourinho, who is renowned for speaking openly to the media, decided against attending the post-match press conference and put that down to previous experience.

"Last season, after the Champions League semi-finals, we said what we thought with open hearts and you lot killed us," he said.

"You criticised us again after we criticised the referee when we were eliminated from the Copa del Rey this year.

"We wanted to avoid controversy and suspensions after facing Villarreal and that is why we didn't make any comments."

Mourinho's contract at the Santiago Bernabeau expires in 2014 and just yesterday he announced his intention to stay in Spain amid reported interest from Manchester City.
