Sturridge picked out
in the 20th minute, but an increasingly narrow angle was too much for the Liverpool's leading goalscorer as he put his shot wide. Luis Suarez broke the deadlock after 23 minutes, Edin Dzeko creating the chance for the Bosnian to fire in from the six-yard box. James Milner
However, City's lead lasted just six minutes, with Sturridge drilling the ball past Hart from just outside the penalty area to level the scores.

A communication error between Hart and Zabaleta almost gifted Liverpool the lead just before half time when the defender attempted a back pass to his keeper that the England international missed, but the ball just inches wide.
