The South African, who is the 20th seed at this year's event, needed a tie-break to wrap up the opener as both players served well early on.

However, Roger-Vasselin upped his game in the second, outplaying Anderson to level the match just 26 minutes after falling behind.

Anderson regained his composure in the third and fourth though as he kept his own serve solid before forcing a break in each set to wrap up the match.

Anderson will face either Germany's Tim Puetz or 16th seed Fabio Fognini in the next round.
