Juan-Martin del Potro sees off Gael Monfils at Rotterdam Open

Defending champion Juan-Martin del Potro is through to round two of the Rotterdam Open with a straight-sets win against France's Gael Monfils.

Defending champion Juan-Martin del Potro has booked his place in round two of the Rotterdam Open with a straight-sets win against Gael Monfils.

The Argentine, 25, saw off the flamboyant Frenchman 7-6(6) 6-3 on Wednesday to seal his place in the next round.

He will now take on Monfils's fellow countryman Paul-Henri Mathieu for a quarter-final berth.

Del Potro is looking to win his second ATP title of the season following his triumph at the Sydney International last month.
