Harlequins edge out Scarlets

Harlequins fire a late penalty to edge a 22-20 victory over Scarlets in their final Heineken Cup encounter.

Harlequins have ended their Heineken Cup campaign with a 22-20 victory over Scarlets in Wales.

The Aviva Premiership outfit finish second in Pool 4 behind Clermont Auvergne, but Quins will not be one of two clubs to progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament as best runners-up.

The hosts got off to a good start and took a 7-0 lead inside four minutes after Gareth Davies's try was converted by the boot of Rhys Priestland.

However, Harlequins responded with converted tries from Mike Brown and Ollie Lindsay-Hague, before Aaron Shingler went over to ensure that the hosts boasted a narrow 15-14 half-time lead.

Scrum-half Karl Dickson touched down for the visitors just three minutes into the second half, before Jordan Williams re-established the one-point advantage in the scoreline.

The South Wales outfit looked on course for a consolation victory, only for Ben Botica to fire a penalty between the posts with three minutes remaining to secure second place in the pool.
