Jeremy Brockie fires Wellington Phoenix to win in final game

Jeremy Brockie nets a brace in his final match for the Wellington Phoenix to guide them to a 3-0 win over the Brisbane Roar and move the club second in the A-League.

Jeremy Brockie scored two goals to fire the Wellington Phoenix to a 3-0 victory over the Brisbane Roar in his final A-League match for the club.

The Phoenix took the lead in the third minute when Manny Muscat raided down the pitch and beat his man with a clever bit of skill before driving an effort past Jamie Young.

Muscat came close to doubling his tally when he found space inside the box and curled an effort towards the bottom corner, but his strike went wide of the post.

The Roar came close to getting back into the game as Jean Carlos Solorzano tried his luck from distance, and his shot tested Glen Moss, who was forced to parry the ball away from the net before a defender cleared the danger.

In the second half, Wellington were handed the chance to double their lead as Brockie was brought down in the box by Young. Brockie himself took the spot kick and sent the keeper the wrong way to put the home team further ahead.

The Phoenix were able to secure the three points in the 66th minute as Brockie collected a pass on the edge of the area, turned his man and buried an effort into the bottom corner to end his Phoenix career on a high note as he prepares to join South African side Supersport United.

The fourth victory on the bounce moves Wellington up to second place in the A-League table.
