Barcelona team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Villarreal

Sports Mole rounds up Barcelona's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's La Liga clash with Villarreal.

Barcelona will kick off their 2020-21 La Liga campaign with a home match against Villarreal on Sunday night.

Ronald Koeman is set to lead the Catalan giants into a new era, but Lionel Messi is still at Camp Nou despite widespread speculation surrounding his future.

Messi informed Barca that he wanted to leave the club this summer before ultimately reversing his decision, and the Argentine is expected to take to the field this weekend.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Barca's injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Villarreal, who have already played twice in La Liga this season, picking up four points from two games.

Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: Unknown

Barca will be without the services of Martin Braithwaite in the early stages of the season as the forward picked up a quadriceps injury in a training match after Saturday's 1-0 win over Elche in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Barca are expected to be without the services of their first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the next two months due to a knee injury. As a result, Neto is expected to start the campaign between the sticks.

Samuel Umtiti

Umtiti has not made a first-team outing since the end of June due to knee issues. The centre-back has not been officially ruled out of Sunday's match, but he is not expected to be available for selection.

Barca have no players suspended for the clash with Villarreal.
