Jon Daly brace helps Rangers thrash Airdrieonians

Rangers put six past Airdrieonians to extend their lead at the top of Scottish League One.

Rangers have retained their lead at the top of Scottish League One with a 6-0 win over Airdrieonians this evening.

Willie McLaren had a chance to put the home side ahead after just seven minutes, but Scott Gallacher was able to push the ball wide.

Rangers were able to break the deadlock during the 19th minute, with Lewis Macleod drilling Robbie Crawford's delivery past Colin Stewart.

Andrew Little was able to double the visitors' advantage just before the break, smashing the ball in from a Jon Daly header.

Crawford added a goal of his own early in the second half, as Macleod and Lee Wallace tore through the midfield before setting their teammate up for a close-range effort.

As the game progressed, Rangers' dominance increased, allowing the Ibrox side to net three goals in seven minutes.

Daly headed in his first of the evening, before Nicky Law flicked the ball in from the edge of the box, while Daly added his second two minutes later with a cool finish from inside the penalty area.

David Templeton thought that he had added a seventh for Ally McCoist's men during stoppage time, but the referee had already blown for a foul outside the box, ruling out the midfielder's strike.
