Johanna Konta: 'I'm keeping my feet on the ground despite US Open progress'

British hopeful Johanna Konta says that she is planning on keeping her feet "firmly on the ground" despite her remarkable progress at the US Open in New York.

Rising British tennis hopeful Johanna Konta has insisted that she is keeping her feet "firmly on the ground" despite her impressive showing at the US Open.

The 24-year-old has made it into a fourth-round clash with Petra Kvitova in New York, and could become Britain's new number one if she is able to beat the two-time Wimbledon champion at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.

"To be honest, I feel just as I did two weeks ago, I haven't exactly grown wings or anything," said Konta, according to the Straits Times.

"I must say I'm happy with how I have been playing so far this week but my feet are firmly on the ground. I haven't cured cancer or anything."

Konta entered the tournament ranked 96th in the women's draw, but could leave in the top 50.
