Venus Williams out in round two

Venus Williams exits in the second round of the Italian Open after losing 6-4 6-2 to Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

Venus Williams has been eliminated in the second round of the Italian Open after losing 6-4 6-2 to Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro.

Williams, who beat Annika Beck in the first round, was broken in the opening match of the first set. However, the American did break back to leave the scores level at 1-1 early on.

Williams then broke at 1-2 to take control of the first set, but Navarro responded with two breaks of her own to eventually claim the opener 6-4.

It proved more straightforward for Navarro in the second, with two early breaks moving her 4-1 ahead, before another break at 2-4 allowed the 25-year-old to serve it out for a place in the third round.
