Widnes Vikings put their disappointing 2012 campaign behind them on Sunday as they began the new Super League season by beating London Broncos 28-14 at the Twickenham Stoop.

The Cheshire outfit, who finished bottom of the table last year, scored their first try after just five minutes when Stefan Marsh touched down.

Jon Clarke and David Allen also crossed over in the first half, in which all three tries were coolly converted by Rhys Hanbury.

Two tries from Kieran Dixon and one from replacement Chris Melling got the hosts on the scoreboard in the second period.

However, Frank Winterstein powered over late on to make sure of the win for Widnes.
