Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino suggests he was appreciative of Todd Boehly's public backing for his side's style of football earlier this week.

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino feels Todd Boehly's recent public comments can only benefit his first-team squad.

The Blues have endured somewhat of a mixed first campaign under the Argentine, albeit in a season where they have reached the EFL Cup final and FA Cup semi-finals.

Pochettino's side have spent many months outside of the European places in the Premier League standings, at one point looking out of touch with the top seven.

However, a recent seven-point haul from matches against Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United has moved the West Londoners into seventh position.

In the days after the 5-0 victory over the latter, co-owner Todd Boehly was quizzed on his opinion of Chelsea's recent resurgence in form.

What did Boehly have to say?

Speaking at a Q&A session in Los Angeles, Boehly was full of praise for the "beautiful" football that had been played over 'the past two-and-a-half matches'.

Boehly also indicated that he felt that Chelsea's long-term strategy was heading in the right direction, comments that only seemingly support Pochettino at a time when speculation persists that he could be sacked at the end of 2023-24.

At Friday's press conference ahead of the meeting with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Pochettino felt that Boehly's words helped provide some reassurance to his squad and supporters.

The Argentine told reporters: "He described the reality, no? Yes, I think always Todd was very good with us, even when it was a tough moment, he was always very positive through the messages and in a private way.

"But to be public now, if the owner is happy it is much better for the club, for the fans, but for the players, also."

Pochettino remains against discussing his future

Pochettino was later asked whether he expects to remain in the Stamford Bridge hotseat, leading to the 52-year-old being keen to divert attention back to the club's upcoming matches.

He added: "Look, it's not important. The most important thing is to keep going, working if we are all happy, not only the owners happy with us, or the sporting directors with us, or us, with all the organisation that the club is building here because of them we are all under assessment."

Earlier in the press conference, Pochettino gave a positive injury update on two of his long-term absentees as Chelsea prepare to travel to the East Midlands.

Victory at Forest would move Chelsea three points clear of eighth-placed Manchester United, and with a superior goal difference, ahead of the Red Devils facing Arsenal on Sunday.
