Which clubs are in the best position for Champions League progression?

The Champions League round of 16 is at its halfway point and for the most part it's looking pretty good for the English teams.

None of them are currently facing a deficit, with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City practically wondering who they will face in the quarter-final.

It's not over just yet though - the second legs are still to come and in many games there is still plenty to play for. We take a look at what's happened so far and who are the favourites to progress...

Porto 0-5 Liverpool
Liverpool are already sailing into the quarter-finals after a sensational victory over Porto at the Estadio do Dragao. Jurgen Klopp's men stormed to a 5-0 win with a Sadio Mane hat-trick and goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino proving they are real threats in this competition.

Porto are a good side but it would be a miracle for them to get a win to turn this result around at Anfield and the Reds will now be a team to avoid in the later rounds for the bigger sides.

Bayern 5-0 Besiktas
Few have been talking about Bayern as potential contenders but plenty of Champions League predictions are now being made that they could go all the way. They are clear at the top of the Bundesliga and have already sealed their place beyond this round with a 5-0 lead going into the second leg.

Sevilla 0-0 Manchester United
Sevilla versus Manchester United is much more of an interesting tie than the two previously mentioned. Both teams will still fancy their chances following a goalless draw in the first leg.

Jose Mourinho claimed that it wasn't ideal with his side failing to grab an away goal, but Manchester United will still be favourites to beat Sevilla given that the second leg is at Old Trafford. The Portuguese will be hoping that Paul Pogba has re-found his form before then, while he will likely utilise Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez a little more forcefully back in Manchester.

Real Madrid 3-1 PSG
Real Madrid's season isn't quite going to plan but they pulled it out of the bag with two late goals to give them a nice cushion at the Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane will be putting all his eggs in his Champions League basket with La Liga well beyond them now, so they really do need to keep a hold of this lead.

They have been heavily tipped by tipsfix.com to qualify at 1/3 and PSG have yet to really cause any firm upsets in the Champions League against the major teams at the knockout stages. A final is required of the French side and they'll be putting a lot of pressure on record signing Neymar to produce. We expect a real thriller at Parc des Princes.

Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona
The Chelsea faithful were left devastated by a Lionel Messi goal in the final 15 minutes of their first leg at Stamford Bridge and it will be an upward battle for them to qualify from here.

They needed a lead to take to Camp Nou and failed to get that. Not many teams can get a result in Barcelona and it will take a miracle for Antonio Conte's men to get one in a few weeks' time.

Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 Roma
The away goal could be a crucial one for Roma in this tie, which keeps them as a favourites to go through despite being a goal down. It will be a hugely tough task for Shakhtar to get a result at the Stadio Olimpico, particularly with the likes of Edin Dzeko leading the line for Roma.

We expect another tight affair but one in which Roma will come out on top. If they can keep things tight at the back, we'd fancy a few Champions League free bets on this one.

Juventus 2-2 Tottenham
Spurs were fantastic in coming back from two goals down to earn a draw against Juventus at the Juventus Stadium. They have one of the most feared attacks in Europe and will be hugely fancied now to cause one of the shocks of the round.

Juventus will have been desperate to chase their first Champions League trophy since 1996, and of course they still might do. They're one of the best clubs on the continent and if they can pinch a goal they could make Spurs suffer. We fancy Mauricio Pochettino's men to triumph at Wembley though. They've done the hard work and simply have to finish it off.

FC Basel 0-4 Manchester City
Manchester City are 3/1 favourites to lift the Champions League trophy for the very first time and won't have done themselves any harm in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie with FC Basel.

A comfortable away leg has left them 4-0 up and practically through to the next round where it really will start to get serious for the Blues. They made it to the semi-final in 2015-16. One better this time?
