Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka may reportedly be facing at least six weeks on the sidelines with a ruptured knee ligament.

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka may reportedly be out of action for the next six to eight weeks with a knee ligament injury.

The 29-year-old was forced off after 82 minutes in Sunday's North London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur, with Lucas Moura crashing into him after an initial challenge from Thomas Partey.

Xhaka has since been pictured on social media with his leg in a brace, and Mikel Arteta was not able to offer a positive update on the midfielder's condition after Sunday's 3-1 win.

Now, journalist Andreas Boni reports that while Xhaka has not suffered a potentially season-ending cruciate ligament rupture, he has suffered a torn ligament in his right knee and could be out for at least six weeks, possibly eight.

Boni adds that Xhaka will soon undergo further tests before an official announcement on his injury is made, but he could potentially miss clashes with Leicester City, Liverpool and Manchester United before the end of November.

The Switzerland captain returned to the starting lineup on Sunday after serving a three-game suspension for his red card at Manchester City, with his layoff now handing Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ainsley Maitland-Niles opportunities to impress alongside Partey.
