The proposed move taking Loris Karius from Liverpool to Besiktas is reportedly being delayed due to a national public holiday in Turkey.

The proposed transfer taking goalkeeper Loris Karius from Liverpool to Besiktas has reportedly been delayed due to national public holidays in Turkey.

The two clubs were understood to have agreed terms over a £9.5m deal for the under-fire shot-stopper on Monday, resulting in Karius being withdrawn from the Liverpool squad to face Crystal Palace that evening.

Confirmation of the deal has not yet arrived, though, and the Liverpool Echo reports that the delay is down to a four-day national holiday in Turkey.

It is currently the 'Feast of Sacrifice', which is considered the most important Islamic religious festival of the year, but Karius could still complete his move on Friday, when he is scheduled to undergo a medical in Istanbul.

Karius will initially join Besiktas on a two-year loan deal which will cost the Turkish outfit £2.25m, and they would then be obligated to buy him for a further £7.25m in 2020 if he meets performance criteria including appearances and Besiktas qualifying for Europe.

The Reds also have a 20% sell-on clause in the contract should it become permanent.
