Preview: Poland Under-17s vs. Slovakia Under-17s - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's European Under-17s Championship clash between Poland Under-17s and Slovakia Under-17s, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Poland Under-17S and Slovakia Under-17s will both look to seal their place in the European Under-17 Championship quarter-finals when they go head-to-head at the Dasaki Stadium on Monday.

Having taken one point from two matches, Poland and Slovakia are both sitting one point adrift of second-placed Sweden in Group C.

Match preview

Poland have significant work to do if they are to replicate last year's run to the European Under-17 Championship semi-finals.

They began their current campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Italy, before they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Friday's meeting with Sweden.

Poland fought back on a couple of occasions, with Jakub Adonis and Michael Izunwanne both netting equalisers to ensure that their country took a valuable point from matchday two.

Rafal Lasocki's side will set up a quarter-final clash with the winners of group D if they beat Slovakia and Sweden fail to claim maximum points in their final group game.

However, head-to-head records and goal difference could come into play if Poland draw with Slovakia and Sweden lose to group winners Italy.

Slovakia reached the semi-finals in their only previous European Under-17 Championship appearance at their home tournament in 2013.

A place in the last four currently seems a long way off, with Slovakia sitting bottom of the group with a goal to their name.

After playing out a goalless draw with Sweden, they fell to a 2-0 defeat in Friday's clash with Italy following first-half goals from Francesco Camarda and Mattia Liberali.

Like their opponents, Slovakia know that they will be guaranteed a place in the knockout rounds if they claim three points and Sweden fail to beat Italy.

However, that will be easier said than done as they have now won just one of their six matches in European Under-17 Championship history (D3, L2).

Team News

Oskar Pietuszewski may be recalled to the Poland lineup after featuring as a half-time substitute against Sweden.

Pietuszewski could be joined in the forward line by Izunwanne, who is set to be rewarded with a starting place following his goalscoring substitute appearance on Friday.

As for Slovakia, Crystal Palace youngster Samuel Lusale is likely to return to the side after coming off the bench at half time in Friday's clash with Italy.

Like Lusale, Denis Valko dropped out of the starting XI on matchday two, but he could be brought back into the lineup for the final group match.

Poland Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Jelen; Leszczynski, Potulski, Monka; Szczepaniak, Brzyski, Dziewiatowski, Adkonis, Mazurek; Pietuszewski, Izuwanne

Slovakia Under-17s possible starting lineup:
Zajac; Turansky, Daniel, Balog, Okal; Trello, Strucka, Vlna; Lusale, Kovacik, Valko

We say: Poland Under-17s 2-0 Slovakia Under-17s

Both teams will be frustrated with the fact that they have failed to win either of their two group matches, leaving them with work to do in Monday's fixture.

However, Poland have at least scored a couple of goals in the tournament, and we think that they could clinch all three points against a goal-shy Slovakia side.
