Sports Mole answers whether England are playing today as the Three Lions go for Euro 2024 glory.

Euro 2024 glory is within touching distance for Gareth Southgate's England, who touched down in Germany a few weeks ago for the latest edition of the continental championships after a mixed warm-up period in front of the home crowd.

Runners-up to Italy under the Wembley arch in 2021, the Three Lions were heralded as one of the tournament favourites, and even though some of their early performances failed to live up to the billing, another major tournament final awaits.

Not since conquering the globe at the 1966 World Cup have England's men's team come up trumps in a top-level competition, and the Three Lions now bid to emulate their female colleagues, who won Euro 2022 at the home of English football.

At Euro 2024, however, England have well and truly flattered to deceive despite topping Group C without suffering a single defeat, only just edging out Serbia 1-0 in a game where they were not punished for sitting back after taking the lead.

It was a different story in their 1-1 draw with Denmark, though, and a goalless stalemate with Slovenia in their concluding affair triggered a furious response from the Three Lions faithful, who booed the team and threw cups in the direction of the under-fire Southgate.

Nevertheless, five points from a possible nine was enough to earn a date with one of the best third-placed teams rather than Germany, who eliminated Group C runners-up Denmark, while the Three Lions prepared to tackle Slovakia.

Once again, the 1966 World Cup winners rode their luck and then some in Gelsenkirchen, but a dramatic late comeback ensured that they would be present in the quarter-finals of a major tournament for the fourth time on the spin.

What followed was another exercise in exorcising spot-kick demons, edging out Switzerland in a dramatic penalty-shootout following a 1-1 draw in their Dusseldorf quarter-final, putting them two games away from glory.

The Netherlands would provide England's sternest opposition yet at the Signal Iduna Park, but once again, the Three Lions' powers of recovery came to the fore, as Ollie Watkins's sensational 90th-minute winner made Southgate's men Euros finalists for the second tournament running.

Following a few well-deserved days of recuperation from their dramatic semi-final success, England step foot onto the Olympiastadion turf for Euro 2024's closing act on Sunday, bidding to deny Spain a record-breaking fourth European title in a final of colossal proportions,

Despite Ezri Konsa putting in a brilliant defensive shift in the quarter-final triumph over Switzerland, Marc Guehi - who was suspended for the success over the Rossocrociati - returned to the backline against the Netherlands in what was Southgate's solitary change.

The Three Lions boss decided against risking Luke Shaw from the first whistle, even though the Manchester United man provided quite the threat down the left flank when he was introduced in the last eight, as Kieran Trippier represented a safer and fitter option.

However, Shaw was introduced at half time at the Signal Iduna Park and came through the second 45 unscathed, putting him in a brilliant position to start the final, where Watkins's last-gasp strike should not earn him a start over joint-top scorer Harry Kane.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur man - one of six players boasting a joint-high three goals at the Euros - will no doubt be supported by the pairing of Bellingham and Phil Foden in the German capital, with the effervescent Saka also offering support.

The wing-back's Arsenal teammate Declan Rice forms his effective midfield pairing with Kobbie Mainoo, now the youngest man to start a World Cup or Euros semi-final for England, as Shaw and Trippier engage in a fascinating battle to start on the left.

Ever-presents Kyle Walker and John Stones will no doubt form part of Jordan Pickford's three-man defensive wall, and Guehi has also done more than enough to justify his place in the first XI for the Euro 2024 final.
