A policeman suffers a broken leg during crowd trouble outside Elland Road last night.

A policeman broke his leg during scenes of violence between Leeds United and Manchester United supporters last night, West Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

The officer, who has so far not been named, was one of two to be injured as police tried to curb the disorder.

"There were pockets of disorder outside the ground prior to the match, with officers coming under missile attack. Mounted section officers were deployed to support units outside the ground, however two officers were injured as a result of mounted intervention," read a statement.

"One officer received a broken leg which will require surgery, with the second officer sustaining a foot injury. A number of spectators were assaulted during the disorder.

"A large number of Leeds supporters threw missiles at officers for a sustained period. Around 200 Manchester fans were contained on Elland Road and escorted on buses to Leeds railway station."

Video footage of Leeds and Man United supporters has surfaced today, both mocking the loss of lives suffered by the other club.
