Barcelona's Sergi Roberto is set to put pen to paper on a new deal with the club next week, according to a report.

The versatile Spaniard has entered the final year of his existing deal with the Blaugrana and was briefly linked with a move to Manchester City earlier in the summer.

However, Roberto has started the 2021-22 La Liga season strongly - scoring two goals and setting up one more in his side's opening three games from a central role - but he was supposedly left distraught after being booed by his own supporters in their Champions League loss to Bayern Munich.

Now, Marca reports that the fans' hostility was due to Roberto's uncertain contract situation, but the 29-year-old will officially commit his future to the Catalan giants next week.

The report adds that Joan Laporta and Roberto reached an agreement 'several days ago', and negotiations over the Spaniard's new two-year deal have dragged on for longer than expected due to the club's imposed salary reductions.

Roberto has scored 12 goals and set up 37 more from 308 games in a Barcelona shirt since progressing through the youth ranks, winning six La Liga titles and two Champions League crowns in that time.
