Barcelona reportedly turned down the opportunity to sign Tanguy Ndombele or Serge Aurier from Tottenham Hotspur as part of a deal for Emerson Royal.

With Emerson having to compete with the likes of Sergino Dest and Sergi Roberto for a spot in the Blaugrana team, Ronald Koeman allowed the right-back to depart for North London in the last knockings of the summer window.

The Brazilian defender had a debut to forget against Crystal Palace during a 3-0 defeat for Spurs on Saturday lunchtime, and he has admitted that he originally wanted to stay and fight for his place at Barcelona.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs - who forked out £21.4m to sign Emerson - offered Ndombele or Aurier in exchange for the 22-year-old, but Barcelona rejected that proposal.

Aurier ultimately terminated his contract with Tottenham on deadline day and is currently a free agent, although he was linked with a surprise move to Arsenal earlier this month.

Ndombele, meanwhile, was initially frozen out of the Tottenham team under Nuno Espirito Santo, but he was an unused substitute in Saturday's humbling defeat at Selhurst Park.
