Sports Mole rounds up the action from Wednesday and Thursday's Europa League action.

Manchester United have edged through to the last 16 of the Europa League after a 3-2 aggregate victory over Ajax.

However, a 2-1 defeat on the night at Old Trafford allowed the Red Devils to progress by the narrowest of margins.

They will face Athletic Bilbao in the next round as the Spaniards claimed an away-goals victory over Lokomotiv Moscow.

Meanwhile, Stoke City are out of the competition with their 1-0 defeat at Valencia condemning them to a 2-0 aggregate loss. Unai Emery's team will meet next meet PSV Eindhoven, who beat Trabzonspor 6-2 after two legs.

Manchester City's 4-0 win against holders Porto on Tuesday night has earned them a tie with Sporting Lisbon, who edged out Legia Warsaw 3-2 on aggregate.

Metalist Kharkiv moved emphatically into the last 16 with an 8-1 aggregate triumph over Salzburg. The Ukrainians have set up an encounter with Olympiakos after the Greek side knocked out Rubin Kazan 2-0 on aggregate.

Steve McClaren's FC Twente disposed of Steaua Bucharest to give them a last-16 clash with Schalke, who defeated FC Viktoria Plzen.

Standard Liege's 1-1 draw with Wisla Krakow in the first leg saw them scrape through courtesy of the away goals ruling, with Hannover waiting for them in the next round after their 3-1 aggregate win over Brugge.

AZ Alkmaar recorded a 2-0 aggregate win against Anderlecht to set them up with a tie against PAOK's conquerors Udinese.

Atletico Madrid did all of the hard work in the first leg as the dumped Lazio out of the competition, with Besiktas meeting them in the next round after the Turkish club beat Braga.

The first legs of the last-16 ties will take place on Thursday, March 8.
