Argentine attacker Lionel Messi is currently a free agent, having not yet agreed a new contract with Barcelona.

Lionel Messi's contract with Barcelona has officially ended, meaning that the Argentine is currently a free agent.

The 34-year-old is believed to be on the verge of signing a new deal at Camp Nou, with significant progress being made over the last week when it comes to discussions between the two parties.

There were suggestions that the Catalan giants would announce the fresh contract at the end of June, but as it stands, there has not been any communication from either party.

As a result, Messi is now a free agent, and the attacker is currently away with Argentina at the Copa America.

According to Goal, the South American is 'calm' about his future and is fully focused on helping his country at this summer's competition.

Messi, who attempted to leave Barcelona last summer amid interest from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, scored 38 goals and registered 14 assists in 47 appearances for Ronald Koeman's side last season.
