Wigan Athletic's hopes of moving out of the relegation zone are still alive after they went into the break at the DW Stadium 0-0 with West Bromwich Albion.

Roberto Martinez's side can climb out of the bottom three with a win and will be content with the half-time score, although they arguably deserve to be ahead after 45 minutes.

They began brightly as Franco Di Santo, who started in place of the injured Hugo Rodellega, had a hat-trick of chances, the last of which forced Ben Foster to push wide.

From the resultant corner, captain Gary Caldwell had another early opportunity for the Latics but fired his shot past the post.

In a first-half where the hosts were dominant, Foster was called into action again when he tipped James McCarthy's shot onto the bar.

Shaun Maloney, who was handed his first Wigan start, also had a chance to give them the lead but he couldn't convert from Antonio Alcaraz's headed pass.

Martinez will be hoping that his side don't come to rue their missed chances in the second half, as they search for just a second home win of the season.
